Class Regulations and Policies – Internal Medicine, Physical Diagnosis  2022/2023

 

The following document should allow you to become familiar with policies, procedures, schedule and
expectations of each of you at the Department of Internal Medicine,  Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology , Medical University of Silesia.


  1. RULES ALLOW YOU TO ATTEND CLINICAL COURSES
    1. Students should respect the patients.
    2. Bags, jackets, and personal items must be checked in at the coat check room downstairs in the
    main lobby.
  2. Students are not allowed to enter the wards wearing winter boot.
    4. Student without a lab coat or scrubs is not allowed to participate in the classes.
    5. Students who have class sessions as scheduled are only allowed to enter the patients ward.
    6. Students who are not in the scheduled rotation group list are not allowed to enter the clinical course class.
    7. Eating and drinking in the lecture and on the patient’s ward is strictly prohibited.
  3. Students must wear their name (ID) on the front where it can be read by staff, and wear it always in the hospitals,
  4. Students must wear mask

REFUSAL TO MEET ANY OF THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS WILL RESULT IN AN IMMEDIATE REMOVAL FROM THE CLASS ( CLINICAL ROTATION) AND LOSS OF THAT PARTICULAR DAY’S CREDIT.

    1. Much of the course work is carried out by the patient’s bed side.

  1. GRADING
    1. In order to complete the course , and final exam of the course, the student should actively participate in lectures and practical classes and obtain a satisfactory grade in all the listed rotations as listed by the dean’s office.
    2. Student who had failed in given course work of the clinical rotation before the final exam of the clinical rotation will not be allowed to sit for the final exam. Student’s status of completion of the sub specialty courses from the various departments will be sent to the dean’s office prior to the final exam. 3. The date and time of the final exam is set by the dean’s office in co-operation with on campus and out campus students and forwarded to the course coordinating department.

FINAL EXAM  OF INTERNAL MEDICINE:
The final exam consists of :
A) Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) 120 questions - computerized on e-tester  platform

Condition to pass the final exam is obtaining ≥78 points
Grades of Final Exam
78-84 - 3.0 (C)
85-91 - 3,5 (C+)
92-99 - 4.0 (B)
100-106 - 4.5 (B+)
≥107 - 5.0 (A)

All the students are given 3 attempts in the final exam in order to complete the Internal  Medicine course. Student who fails to obtain passing grade in three attempts has to repeat the Internal Medicine course in the following academic year.


  1. ABSENCES
    a) Absences during the clinical rotation course caused by legitimate reasons exclude reception of a credit and the student receives a chance of completing this credit by making it up with the other group of students prior acceptance of the course coordinator (condition: that student should produce the sick leave note not later than 3 days from the absences by an e-mail to the department secretary or to the course coordinator).
    b) Absence exceeding 50% of the clinical course, Unexcused absence results automatically obtaining unsatisfactory result “F” of the clinical rotation.
    c) Absences during the tests or exams student should provide a strong health related certificate by a public health service provider including hospital discharge notes in order to prevent of losing an
    attempt, department head always can consider sick note provide by the students on timely manner
    during the tests as well as exams for further investigations.
  2. e) Absence in the entire Internal Medicine, Physical Diagnosis course exceeding 20% (excused and none excused) during the academic year will be considered as incompletion of the subject and the student should repeat the whole course in the following academic year.
  3. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
    1. Head of the Department may accept credits from others University.
    Conditions required:
    a) Student should bring the documents prior to the course of Internal Medicine, Physical diagnosis
  4. b) Prove of clinical exposure of the course (Internal Medicine, Physical diagnosis) which the student is applying for exemption.
    c) The number of clinical course hours is equal or greater at that University in a MD program.
    d) Credits for clinical courses taken not in a MD program will not be transferred (mainly for Internal Medicine co-rotation).
    e) In individual cases if student fulfills all above mentioned criteria’s department head may evaluate the student's clinical skills knowledge prior to exemption.
